Fundación Maldita.es publishes along with ten other fact-checking organizations a report which compiles the results of monitoring conducted between January 1, and March 31, 2026, as part of the ATAFIMI project.
The initiative aims to identify and analyze incidents of information manipulation and interference (FIMI) originating from Russia in various countries and languages.
The monitoring covers the following participating countries: Spain, Ukraine, Lithuania, Georgia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Argentina, Colombia, Mexico, and Venezuela.
These are the main highlights:
- Disinformation built around existing narratives but framed within current international events such as the declassification of the Epstein files, the situation in the Middle East, the Winter Olympic Games, or the capture of Nicolás Maduro in Venezuela.
- The amplified messages aimed both to damage the international image of Ukrainians and their government and to promote a positive portrayal of Russia.
- Content has emerged that, beyond promoting criticism of Ukraine, sought to humiliate and parody Ukrainian figures generated with artificial intelligence.
- In addition to responses to breaking news or active crises and the use of AI-generated content, already highlighted in the previous report, other notable tactics include audience segmentation to produce targeted content and the goal of denigrating the adversary.
