The Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas (FORTH) is the premier research centre in Greece, internationally acknowledged for its excellence in basic and applied research, in developing applications and products, and in providing services. The Institute of Computer Science (ICS), one of the six institutes of FORTH, contributes to this project. The University of Cyprus (UCY), established in 1989, is one of the top Greek-speaking universities, distinguished for its extensive scientific and technical expertise, particularly through participation in R&D projects. The Laboratory for Internet Computing (LInC) in the Computer Science Department at the University of Cyprus was established in 2002. Its aim is to conduct outstanding interdisciplinary research and innovation, producing new knowledge and tools that can be applied to solve real-life problems in the field of Internet Computing.

Laurea University of Applied Sciences – Laurea is a distinguished and multi-faculty university educating future professionals for security management, business management, Information and Communications Technology, service innovation and design, and nursing. Laurea’s Research, Development and Innovations (RDI) bring together several aspects – from academic research to practitioners’ know-how, and from tech-savviness to traditional security and safety studies. Laurea’s RDI activities concentrate on four focus areas, of which the most relevant to this project is Security, Safety and Social Responsibility R&D research domain. This focus area can be described through the human security paradigm which refers to a multidisciplinary approach towards understanding the concept of security, including international relations, strategic and development studies, and human rights. In this context, security is seen as an enabler, outcome, and integral part of other subject fields. Laurea’s research activities promote solutions that are, above all, ethically and socially sustainable e.g. respecting fundamental human rights.

Eurecat is the leading Technology Centre of Catalonia, providing the industrial and business sector with differential technology and advanced expertise. The centre offers solutions to their innovation needs and boosts their competitiveness in a fast-paced environment. It brings together the expertise of 750 professionals who generate a volume of income of 62M€ per year. Serving more than a thousand companies, Eurecat is involved in 200 projects of R&D national and international with high strategic value. The centre has large expertise in areas such as cybersecurity, digital identity and privacy, authentication and security in cloud computing environments, and blockchain technologies.

Storyzy is a French tech company that developed an OSINT tool designed specifically for defence, security, and foreign affairs professionals. Storyzy’s tool is designed to monitor and investigate malign manipulation activities, foreign interference, and disinformation. It enables quantitative measurements and qualitative assessments for in-depth and granular analyses.

In the context of ATHENA, Trinity College Dublin, as lead partner of the Science Foundation Ireland-supported ADAPT Research Centre, brings significant experience in the research, design and development of tailored interventions to combat the effects of disinformation. This experience stems from over 20 years’ experience in researching state of the art personalisation approaches and, more recently, in leading significant European Commission-supported research projects such as Provenance and Vigilant in employing those approaches in the challenging context of tackling disinformation.

As an independent non-profit organisation, EU DisinfoLab gathers knowledge and expertise on disinformation in Europe. Through putting together research, investigative work and policy acumen, EU DisinfoLab is an active member of, and supports, a passionate and vast community that helps to detect, tackle, and prevent information disorders endangering citizens’ integrity, peaceful coexistence and democratic values.

The University of Applied Science for Public Service in Bavaria – Department of Policing is in charge of training and educating Police students for their career on professional and executive levels for the Police Enforcement Service. HfoeD teaches future higher ranked police officers in a wide range of disciplines including psychology, political science and social sciences. The inter-disciplinary research team of the HfoeD examines various domains relevant for policing including cybercrime, hate speech, radicalisation, terrorism among others. Security research for and via the police strengthens everyday networking in police practice with training and further education, in other words integrating theory and practice. The research team at HfoeD provides scientific knowledge on relevant topics in the field (i.e., security research, crime prevention or crime research) to police or institutions of the security structure and aids in the design of further training courses and seminars and the mediation of contacts. In addition, the research team supports police and security authorities by providing scientific services in solving day-to-day problems.
